LTTE "dead" resurfacing: Public Apology and Compensation due to Sri Lankan Forces
Shenali D Waduge
The case of Kathiravel Thayapararaja appearing from the 'dead' cannot be taken lightly. If not for his arrest by the Indian police the world would have continued to believe the University Teachers for Human Rights report, continued to accept the War without Witnesses report, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights report and continued to rely on the Australian Government Refugee Review Tribunal report compiled under Country Advice against Sri Lanka. These 4 entities declared that Sri Lankan Forces extra-judicially killed Kathiravel Thayapararaja on 15th September 2009 going so far as to even quote places of torture and place of hospitalization. This accusation of killing went on for 5 years with the name Kathiravel Thayapararaja quoted far and wide to showcase extra judicial killings by Sri Lankan security forces and form the basis for the 'human rights mafia' to descend on nations to ensure human rights prevail in these nations. Before that agenda can take off, UTHR(J) and others must make a public apology, in fact the legal department of the Sri Lankan Security forces must send a letter of demand seeking apology and compensation for tarnishing the image of Sri Lanka and its forces.
With the dead coming alive our next question is how many more dead are out there very much alive?
If not for the Dhanushkodi police in India, arresting the 2 boat loads of 'refugees' and Sri Lankan intelligence authorities quick to pick on the name and match the bonafides to the supposed dead, the world would have continued to believe in the lie cooked up by the University Teachers for Human Rights and the accusations reported by War without Witnesses as well as the countless other international humanitarian organizations quoting far and wide from these sources. None of these reports will ever be changed and their publications will continue to carry that Kathiravel Thayapararaja was in fact abducted, tortured and killed by Sri Lankan Security forces months following the LTTE defeat in September 2009.
The falsehood concocted by the UTHR (J) and quoted by international sources needs to be immediately addressed. There are too many examples of sweeping statements/reports taking place and being quoted internationally to ridicule and embarrass Sri Lanka's image and that of its forces. Witnesses are eventually untraceable, uncontactable or they become 'witnesseses' by virtue of heresay. But the damage has been done and irreversible as is the intent with which the reports were launched.
A crafty 'witness protection' system being introduced enables a cap on the identity when in reality no such person exists because the accusations are all concocted and the case of Kathiravel Thayapararaja is just one good example.
Our next and most important question is Kathiravel Thayapararaja was an employee of a US NGO, surely the NGO with connections to the US would have known that Thayapararaja was alive and not dead. The charade of his supposed 'death' was used by the same circle of people joining to make similar accusations against Sri Lanka on the human rights theme. Working for a US NGO with access to the US embassy on what grounds can Thayapararaja claim himself a victim.
When the same people are quoting the number of dead from 40,000 to 225,000 in the last stages of the war it warrants us to certainly wonder whether these 'dead' are alive and living on their shores with the knowledge of the foreign governments and certain foreign parliamentarians who have been mingling with the tigers over the years?
For parties that can concoct lies and use mainstream media to disseminate the lies far and wide we cannot expect any level of integrity or ethical practice so the next best option is for the legal department of the Sri Lankan Security forces to demand that the University Teachers for Human Rights (Jaffna) make a public apology and seek damages for tarnishing the image of the security forces. Similarly both War without Witnesses, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights report and the Australian Government Refugee Review Tribunal must also be sent letters seeking apology and compensation as well.
The UNHRC and its head too must issue a statement that reports should not be published unless organizations can confirm a person is actually dead. This single example necessitates that the UNHRC produce the names of the 40,000 dead that even they are accusing as being killed by the Sri Lankan security forces or refrain from making accusations without knowing who the dead are or whether they are actually dead.
We are not willing to accept a simply 'sorry' and await another 'dead' man to resurface to raise the issue again.
It is just as well the public of Sri Lanka are not na‹ve to buy the lies that the bogus international human rights network promote with a larger agenda in place. Moreover, the local agents hired to compliment their lies are people who have no respect from the Sri Lankan public whatsoever and these local mouthpieces some of whom are repeatedly rejected politicians have no public respect either.
With LTTE resurfacing from the dead we now need to wonder how many more 'dead' may be alive and calls for the Sri Lankan Missions to wake up and demand from their host nations an inventory of all Sri Lankans domiciled overseas (whether as dual citizens, refugees, awaiting PR etc).

Ananthi Sasasitharan in Geneva
Question her for husband’s role in LTTE child soldier recruitment
Shenali D Waduge
Now that Ananthi Sasitharan is in Geneva she needs to be given the podium to explain how her husband on behalf of the LTTE recruited young children denied them every human right a child is entitled to and trained them not only to kill but to commit suicide by biting a cyanide capsule that Adele Balasingham a nurse living exile in UK first taught them to. If the UNHRC now in session does not raise these questions from Ananthi whose husband recruited the most number of Tamil children then there is some serious flaw in the ‘HUMAN RIGHTS’ that the Human Rights Council espouses to protect and uphold.
When LTTE has a 30 year record for kidnapping people and children and forcing them to learn guerilla warfare how many of the missing people would have been taken by the LTTE over 30 years? Let’s not forget that these areas were totally under LTTE defacto control - LTTE had their own police, own courts, own policemen, own schools - the Tamils in these areas were controlled by the LTTE and the LTTE had only one law “you are either with us or you die”. Ask Ananthi to deny this.
Ananthi is bound to do some explaining. Rather than use a smokescreen, remember there are thousands of Tamil mothers from whom Ananthi’s husband stole their children, thousands of mothers who cannot sleep at night thinking about what happened to their daughters and sons, thousands of mothers who have every right to demand answers from Ananthi and Ananthi is responsible and accountable to answer. She must tell these mothers what happened to their daughters. What mother would want to even imagine that the child their bore into this world would have been used by LTTE as comfort girls/boys or even as killers? Would any mother carry a child for nine months wanting to turn them into terrorists? LTTE turned them into terrorists, Ananthi’s husband trained them into being terrorists and now she must answer.
Ananthi’s husband Ellilan was an LTTE political wing leader. He headed LTTE Vavuniya political unit in 2003/2004 (during the 200 ceasefire). He was leader of LTTE Trincomalee district in 2004-2006 and thereafter came to Vavuniya. He was appointed head of LTTE policy progressing in 2007 and head of LTTE police. The policy progressing unit was tasked to pervert the thinking of youth turning them to idolize LTTE terrorism. Brainwashing youth was done through books, magazines, music, street dramas. These factors are details that people attending Geneva sessions must boldly ask of Ananthi while asking her to divulge details of the Anbu Base in Kilinochchi for recruited cadres. This is where Ellilan was head and trained children and it was a base that everyone knew. Ananthi was working in the Government Agent’s office at Kilinochchi and this very office transported explosives for the LTTE in the Government vehicles as these areas were under total LTTE control.
Did Navi Pillay not know this when she met with Ananthi while in Colombo? Did her officials not brief her about Ananthi’s husband? If so, there is a major shortcoming on the part of Navi Pillay.
Moreover, the media functioning as a 5th column in Sri Lanka playing a similar role to the Western-backed media conveniently omits the view of other Tamils and we may not know it but there are a large number of Tamils who have suffered because of the LTTE, because of the TNA, because of people linked to the LTTE. What numbers are we talking about? We really cannot tell because the media gives publicity to only the pro-LTTE elements thus making the Tamil victims of LTTE and pro-LTTE sources fear to come out into the open and start accusing the LTTE.
That these Tamils are not people with money is another factor that we need to take cognizance of. This (unedited) comment from a Tamil over the internet goes to show that the world and even Sri Lankans know half the story:
Quote: “There is no Organisation among Tamils or among other communities take legal action against living LTTE Terrorist like this women.(Sic) In Vanni only poor Tamils dead during the war. The LTTE soldiers also from poor families. All TNA members have their families abroad. What is going on in Tamil Nadu and India about Rajiv Murders? We have to cooperate with all people in Sri Lanka and in India who really against Terrorism and aiming to destroy the roots of Terrorism.
Tamils never allow a Butcher to be Priest in Hindu Temple
But in Sri Lanka accused Terrorist are allowed to participate in Politics and in Govt.” Unquote
What emerges from this is that we need to now expose people like Ananthi and get them to answer some hard questions. Now that she is a regular visitor to Geneva Human Rights Sessions she must be questioned on LTTE actions in particular the role of her husband in child recruitment because he is responsible for the most number of Tamil children forcibly taken and turned into child terrorists. If the Human Rights Council does not question Ananthi on this important aspect or even Radhika Coomaraswamy who handled the child soldier subject there is a major travesty of justice for the children who perished, who remain traumatized, who continue to live with the scars that no UN process can erase.
The system must change. These people deserve to live their life in freedom and not in fear of people like the TNA parliamentarians pushing their weight around and Ananthi. We are watching to see when the UNHRC will question her on the specific question of child recruitment for this is an important and integral part of closure that Navi Pillay cannot escape from.
Story of Adele Balasingham - Adele Balasingham, Head of LTTE child soldier recruitment
The Human Rights Council and members like the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia are very vocal on accountability. Rightly so, but where is the accountability? It can’t be selective. Simply because Ananthi is now a TNA MP she cannot escape answering some hard questions. She has no immunity and she must explain to the world what her husband did before she sheds crocodile tears for missing people. Demand answers from Ananthi

Human Rights Council
The Human Rights Council desiring accountability must seek these answers from Ananthi now that she is in Geneva. The Human Rights Council will recall the innumerable reports it has compiled over decades on child soldier recruitment. These reports need to be verified and what better person to do so than Ananthi who has first-hand information on how the LTTE trained children, what human rights were denied these children, in what cruel and sub-human conditions these children lived without love of parents, or a harmonious environment, playing with children instead of being given a firearm and taught to shoot and kill. The trauma that children suffered under LTTE needs to be openly admitted and Ananthi is the best direct source from whom the international community can expose the LTTE for its war crimes against children for forcibly conscripting them.Did Navi Pillay not know this when she met with Ananthi while in Colombo? Did her officials not brief her about Ananthi’s husband? If so, there is a major shortcoming on the part of Navi Pillay.

Poverty and caste
The Tamils, the poor Tamils, the low caste Tamils were the real sufferers and their voice has never been heard. They are scared to come out, they are supportive of peace, they are appreciative of the Sri Lankan military, they have been kept out of the polity by their own people because of their poverty and their caste. The system must change. Sri Lankan Americans for Unity and Prosperity today held a protest rally against unjust UN resolutions between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in front of the State Department Building at 8701 South Gessner in Houston, Texas. Over 100 Sri Lankans from the Houston region attended the rally to voice their opposition to ongoing aggressive stand by the US against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan Community in Houston, Texas Rallied Against Unfounded US/UN Allegations
Sri Lanka quelled the Terrorist organization, the Tamil Tigers, in May 2009- ushering in peace and prosperity to all races (Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Burgers) in this island nation after three decades of conflict. Sri Lanka has been making steadfast progress in reconciliation and is currently experiencing commendable economic growth.
However, since the end of the war, numbers of countries misinformed by various groups have attempted to hinder the reconciliation process by bringing forth various unfounded allegations. Although the United States and Sri Lanka have maintained a cordial relationship for over 200 years, the U.S., US, under the present administration, has joined these groups.
A handful of US Senators brought forward a resolution against Sri Lanka in the US Senate as well as a few countries led by the United States and the UK, have tabled a resolution last week for consideration in late March 2014. Sri Lankan Americans in Houston protested these actions during the rally and urged US to withdraw any resolutions against Sri Lanka at UNHRC. Furthermore, attendees vowed to take further actions to safeguard sovereignty of Sri Lanka. The organizers reported that similar rallies are planned in a number of major cities in the US.
During the event, the organizing committee handed over a signed petition addressed to US Secretary of State, Hon. John Kerry requesting that the United States honor Sri Lanka's political autonomy, by respecting Sri Lanka's own reconciliation process. The committee members also met with Mr. Allen Greenberg, Regional Director of the US State Department and detailed tremendous progress achieved by Sri Lanka in the affected areas in regard to socio-economic development.
