More than 5000 Northern Muslims return home -GA Jaffna
Over 5000 Muslims have been resettled in their original places in Jaffna , Chavakachcheri and Welani said the Government Agent jaffna, Mrs Imelda Sukumar yesterday.
According her explanations those people had been forcibly expelled by the LTTE, from their native places and they were living in Kurunegala , Puttalam , Vauniya and other places with their relations since 1990s.
An assessment had been carried out to develop their infrastructure facilities such as water, health and sanitation before they were resettled in their original places, said Mrs Sukumar. Most of these Muslims belong to the fishing and agricultural sector and there are some more who are waiting to come back, she added.
"Out of the families resettled, 622 have already been provided with a resettlement payment of rupees 5,000, 678 families with dry rations, 617 families with return kits funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and 114 families with bags of cement," she said.
