Sivagnanam blames Sampanthan for creating ethnic rifts

Propaganda Secretary of the newly formed People’s Movement of the East for National Harmony (PMENH) and former EPRLF member Murugesu Sivagnanam yesterday blamed Tamil National Alliance leader, R. Sampanthan for what he called creating rifts between ethnic communities in the Eastern Province.
Murugesu, a former EPRLF local government politician, addressing a news conference organised by the PMENH, said that Sampanthan kept on changing his position on the national issue. The TNA leader had, he said, earlier backed the LTTE and was not making pro-Eelam statements.
Hence, the people in the East had lost faith in the TNA leader, Murugesu said.
Somatillake Cyril, another EPRLF member said that the UPFA government had brought an end to an era of terror in the country and peace had dawned.
He said the people of the East had been living in constant fear and under the jackboot of Prabhakaran. They were uncertain of their future while the children could not go to school or visit places of religious worship while the LTTE was active in that part of the country, Cyril said, claiming that some political leaders like PLOTE leader Dharmalingam Siddhardhan had joined the TNA much to the consternation of the public.
Some Provincial Councillors had become rich overnight and today they owned a number of vehicles each and live in palatial bungalows, Cyril said. "We have no trust in those political parties and we will support the UPFA for a better future."
