Operations to apprehend former LTTE cadres Date:2012-04-02 18:01:00By Sareena Hussain The Army together with the police is currently conducting operations to apprehend former LTTE cadres in the Eastern province to send them for rehabilitation, Army spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told Ceylon Today Online. “There are several LTTE cadres who have not surrendered so we are now conducting operations to apprehend them and send them to proper rehabilitation centers,” he said. “Of the 12, 000 former LTTE cadres who were sent in for rehabilitation, we have released 11500. There are several others who have not attended this program therefore we are conducting this operation in order to ensure that they will be useful citizens to the country,” he added. Speaking on the reports that search operations were in place for former LTTE cadres who have arrived from India, he said that this was merely a speculation made by the media following the killing of a former EPDP member in Trincomalee. “I cannot substantiate such a claim as we do not have any evidence to do so. These are only speculations,” he said. Meanwhile, police Spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana also said that he did not receive any reports on LTTE cadres arriving in the country.
