One recurring theme in your speeches and attacks on the GOSL is the accusation that the Tamils cannot expect “dignity, equality, justice and self-respect” in a Sri Lankan State. This accusation leads you to conclude that the Jaffnaites can get equality, dignity, justice and self-respect only under a federal or preferably under a separate state. I note that India too has begun to repeat this theme. Preneet Kaur, the Indian Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs in answer to a question asked in the Lok Sabha recently as to why India voted against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), said in a written reply: “India voted in favour of the resolution ‘Promotion, Reconciliation and Accountability in Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Geneva on 22 March 2012. The vote was in line with the Government’s consistent stand to advance the objective, namely, the achievement of a future for the Tamil community in Sri Lanka that is marked by equality, dignity, justice and self-respect.”
