Forty ex- LTTE cadres qualify for Universities
About 40 former cadres who sat for the GCE (A/L) examination in last August would qualify for university entrance according to their Z-score marks said the Rehabilitation Commissioner General Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe yesterday (12 ).
Further he added that two of them had obtained 1-A, 2-Bs and 3-Cs from Kilinochchi District and that they would be selected for the medical faculty of the universities.
351 ex LTTE cadres who were not of school going age, had gained their education at two specially designed schools in Vavuniya and 10 child soldiers had studied at Hindu College Rathmalana. Out of 361 who sat for GCE (A/L) in last August, 211 students got through in all three subjects.
According to Brigadier Ranasinghe four of them sat for the exam in the Mathematics stream, five from the Bio Science stream, 34 in Commerce and the others from the Art stream. Those students would be considered from the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts. They were released after rehabilitation and now live in their respective districts. According to the Z - score of those two districts they are able to enter the universities
Rehabilitation Commissioner General further said that earlier the LTTE had forcibly recruited those students and so they had to sacrificed their education to fulfill the needs of the terrorist organization. And he added that they were able to identify 594 students at the government run rehabilitation camps after the war.
The Brigadier said 170 former cadres, including 45 females will also sit for GCE (O/L) exam which is to commence today.
