Army strengthen with more Special Forces
www.defence.lk">Eleven officers and four hundred and forty-three other ranks of Special Forces joined to serve the motherland after passing out from Special Forces Training School (SFTS) at Maduruoya yesterday, (11 Dec).
This glamorous passing-out ceremony was more dignified by the presence of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, participating as the chief guest.
The Secretary Defence was accorded with a special guard of honour, and later he inspected the guard in company with the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. Mr Rajapaksa afterwards, awarded Special Forces badges and the Colours to the soldiers. Both Commander of the Army and Commander Security Forces followed suit.
Parents and relatives who came to witness the passing-out ceremony were overjoyed at the showcase of talents by their beloved ones. Display of skills by parachutists, taekwondo men and fighter crafts took the centre stage as the day's proceedings came to an end.
Speaking at the event Mr. Rajapaksa said that terrorism will not be allowed to raise its head again in Sri Lanka as every precautionary measure has been taken by the security forces. Armed forces have always been kept alert to counter any threats to the territorial integrity of the country. In the future all such threats could there for be challenged, he said.
At the same occasion Mrs Chithrani Gunaratne, Special Forces Seva Vanitha Unit donated 3 million to the ongoing Brave Hearts project at Anuradhapura. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch accepted the donation.
Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa also participated as one of the distinguished guests at this ceremony.
