Global unity promotion:
Clinton praises President
Bill Clinton
Former US President Bill Clinton highly praised the contribution made by Sri Lanka towards promoting global unity and interdependence and thanked President Mahinda Rajapaksa for it.
The former US President expressed these sentiments warmly greeting and welcoming President Rajapaksa when he attended the opening sessions of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on Tuesday.
Addressing the opening sessions, Clinton gave a detailed description about the problems faced by the world community due to the economic crisis and climate change. He said global unity was an essential factor to successfully meet these problems and challenges.
A press release by the President’s Media division said the Clinton Global Initiative launched in 2005 has provided relief to nearly 130 million people in 180 countries in numerous ways.
The opening session was attended by several heads of State including US President Barrack Obama, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheik Hasina, South African President Jacob Zuma, well-known business leaders, philanthropists, heads of welfare organizations and heads of multi national companies.
