'The resettlement of people displaced by terrorist activities, will be completed by December 31,2011. Currently there are only 7000 persons still in IDP camps and all measures are in place to resettle them before the end of this year,'said Resettlement Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan.
'The government has provided all basic facilities for the resettled communities and all other infrastructure facilities, including, roads and electricity,' he added.
The minister was addressing a special press briefing on "World Human Rights Day" held at the Galadhari Hotel.
'The civil war in Sri Lanka had displaced over 300,000 persons and the government has done a great service to protect the resettled.
'the government has protected their human rights,' the minister said.
'Sri Lanka has a proud history and a good tradition. Not only human rights, they are protecting all human customs as well. Several parties are trying to create a bad image about Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka has not violated any human rights and it has given a great example to the whole world on how to protect human rights,' said Senior Lecturer of Colombo University Dr.Dhamma Dissanayake. 'Several powerful countries are using human rights as a weapon to attack small countries such as Sri Lanka.
'They are making false allegations against the small countries and are trying to create a bad image about these countries before the International community.
In a such situation, as a developing country with a proud history, all segments of Sri Lanka have a responsibility to give their assistance to protect human rights,' Dr,Dissanayake further added.
