Romila's story

'Abduction', 'broad daylight disappearances', 'armed death squads', 'white-vans' and 'sheer intimidations' were constant malicious propaganda stunts orchestrated by a few vicious individuals/ groups that were left hapless, following the historic defeat of LTTE - the finale of a three decade prolonged tragedy in the island nation.
'Thinakkural' and 'Walampuri' newspapers published in Jaffna and 'Athirvu' website revealed the latest 'abduction' case about Romila who had lived in Chunnakam in Jaffna on 04th August 2012. According to the news Romila, a young girl was abducted by an unknown group when she was on her way to Katunayaka air port to leave for France.
Upon investigation many interesting facts came to light about the real incident and the persons behind it. As the general public has the full right to know the truth we give the true story of Romila's 'abduction'.
According to the investigation conducted the father of Romila, Thambu Thambirasa had left for France in 2004 and had worked as a cook in a restaurant called Papparange hotel. After two years Thambirasa who was living at 27 RUE MARCEIN BERTHELOT 77176 SAVAGNY LE TEMPLE FRANCE who had received French citizenship got down his wife and children from Chunnakam in Jaffna, to France. Later they also were granted French citizenship. After 5 years his wife, Thambirasa Daisirani, daughter Romila and a son returned to Sri Lanka on vacation on 25th June 2012.
During their stay in the Island they had lived with their grand father in Subramaniam Street in Chunnakam, Jaffna. During this period Romila had began a love affair with Mariaseelan Anton Amalraj who was also living in the same street.
Romila's family including her mother, Daisirani was against this affair. So Daisirani had decided to return to France with her children. As they were due to leave the country on 04th August 2012, Daisirani together with her two children had came to Colombo and stayed at a Lodge in Kotahena on 1st August 2012. On the same day Daisirani had received a call on her mobile phone from Amalraj's mother inquiring the date of their departure and about their residence in Colombo. Unsuspectingly Daisirani had given all the details to Amalraj's mother.
On 02nd August 2012 when Daisirani, Romila and her brother were going to the nearby church, Amalraj had appeared in a white van and spoken to Romila with that she had got into the van and left with Amalraj. Later Daisirani had lodged a complaint to the Kotahena Police saying her daughter was abducted by an unknown group in a white van.
The next day Amalraj and Romila had got married in Vavunia and subsequently on 04th August 2012 both of them had gone to the Chunnakam Police Station and made a statement saying that it was not abduction and that she had come on her own free will. Investigations have further reveals that the new couple is living peacefully in Vavuniya.
This is the reality of the latest 'abduction' case to be published in certain sections of the media with the intention of tarnishing the good image of Sri Lanka. It is not proper media ethics to report allegations of such sensitive nature without verifying facts and details. These irresponsible reporting only reflects their unprofessional approach and indifferent attitude in disseminating news to their readership. Through mis-informing they are trying mislead the public and undermine the reconciliation process.
