advantage of certain incidents were trying to create an opinion that a crime
wave was prevalent in the country.

were talking of drugs, armed groups and underworld elements at a time when the
government had launched a full scale exercise to control these nefarious
activities and bring all sorts of culprits to book.
He said minor incidents that took place in the country have
earned much public attention with the eradication of terrorism and certain
elements were trying to create public opinion that a crime wave is prevailing in
the country by making use of this situation.
The President was speaking at a ceremony at President’s House in
Kandy to mark the successful conclusion of the Esala Perahera in Kandy.
