Sri Lanka, a ‘best for long-haul value’ destination
Sri Lanka is one of the ‘best for long-haul value’ destinations for British holidaymakers, according to research by the UK government's national Post Office, beating popular hotspots such as Mexico, Vietnam and Thailand. Sri Lanka takes top spot for the third year running.
Sri Lank has benefited from new direct flights from the UK, and British Airways will fly to Sri Lanka from March.
Resort prices were surveyed to get the cost of a sample “basket’ of 12 typical tourist items such as a three-course meal for two with wine, water and sunscreen.
Sri Lanka’s basket cost £43.85, more than £8 cheaper than Vietnam’s £52.37. Bali was third at £53.48 ahead of Mexican hot spot Cancun on £60.48 and Thai favourite Phuket on £70.69.
