Art exhibition by ex-LTTE combatants at National Art Gallery
www.defence.lk">Exhibition of paintings by former LTTE combatants, presently undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation program, was commenced yesterday (25th April) at the National Art Gallery in Colombo.
A wide range of creations by these ex-combatants including arts, paintings, handicrafts, sculpture, embroidery and needlework, were on display at the exhibition, bringing out their hidden talents that lied dormant all these years.
Around 400 paintings by ex-combatants are on display while the public is able to purchase the artworks as well. The exhibition will be ended today.
"On 23rd April over 400 ex-LTTE combatants who completed their comprehensive rehabilitation program, were reintegrated into the society. Only 4500 ex-LTTE combatants are being rehabilitated in 9 centers in Jaffna, Vavuniya and Welioya", official from the commissioner General of Rehabilitation said.
Senior Minister of Human Resources D.E.W. Gunasekara declared open the exhibition. Minister of Rehabilitation and Prisons Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera, American Ambassador to Sri Lanka Her Excellency Patrcia Butenes also present at the occasion.
