Join hands as one - PM
All Sri Lankans should join hands to achieve goals, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said in a New Year message.
Prime Minister D M Jayaratne
The message: “Dawning of a fresh year provides a valuable opportunity of nature to the people to rekindle their thoughts on life and to project their inspirations in new directions.
“In that context, I believe there would be a great deal of goals for the entire Sri Lankan nation to achieve both collectively and individually, within this newly dawned year 2011. We, at this very instant, should firmly resolve to entrench the strength, the unity and the dignity of the Motherland that are required to reach the expected future goals as a united country and a single nation, while establishing the foundation to accomplish personal advancement.
“I wish to call 2011 as the year of yielding profits down the path of prosperity. I am quite confident that this year would feature, on the one hand, starting of major projects in the country and on the other hand, dispensing of benefits of such projects among the people.
“If we are to achieve all those socio-economic goals, we, inevitably should join hands as proud and noble Sri Lankans of an undivided country and an undivided nation.
“The year 2011 which marks the 2600th Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi would be very special both to Sri Lankans as well as to the entire Buddhist community of the world and thus it is important for us to keep in mind to fine-tune ourselves to a sensible lifestyle as true Buddhists, in herald to Sri Sambuddathwa Jayanthi.
“We should act as a one Sri Lankan nation that practise the spirit of equality, shedding differences of race, caste, creed and social strata, in the backdrop of a religious reconciliation and I wish to reiterate that the obligation of promoting spiritual advancement of devotees in achieving that target, lies in the hands of the Revered clergy of all religions.
“I wish you all a Happy New Year!”
