Tigers donning sheepskin in Geneva
* ‘Tremendous development in East’
* ‘TNA working against country, people’
The LTTE which deprived the people of the East of their rights and lives are
now going to Geneva under the guise of the same rights, Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said. The minister was speaking as chief guest at the
first delegates convention of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) at the
Batticaloa Sivananda College grounds on Sunday. The minister said that over
2,000 members of the TMVP and people of the East who came forward to speak for
the rights of the Eastern people, were annihilated by the LTTE when the region
was plagued by LTTE terror.
Minister Rajapaksa said that he was happy to note that the Eastern Province
has seen tremendous development since the TMVP came into mainstream of politics
denouncing LTTE terrorism. “But on the contrary, TNA leaders who were under the
protection of the Security Forces have now gone to Geneva to work against the
country and the people,” he said.
The minister promised further assistance from the President and the
government for the further development of the Eastern Province.
TMVP leader and Eastern Province Chief Minister S Chandrakanthan presided
over the convention where over 10,000 members of the party participated.
