Many patriotic Tamils and Sinhalese living
abroad are in Geneva to support Sri Lanka’s cause in their battle to avert a
resolution against the country at the United Nations Human Rights Council
sessions.
Among them are prominent figures such as World
Institution for Asian Studies head A T Rajasingham who is also the Chief Editor
of the Asian Tribune magazine, Rajeshwari Balasubramaniam of ‘Diaspora
Dialogue’, Douglas Wickremaratne and several others.
The Sri Lankan delegation in Geneva also plans to present another video
documentary titled Sri Lanka; the Emerging Wonder – conflict, peace and
prosperity for the benefit of UNHRC members.
The first documentary will showcase to members that the Channel 4 video has
failed to show the LTTE atrocities, including the recruitment of children, where
even children as young as 10 years, were recruited for armed combat by the LTTE.
Meanwhile, Channel 4 is preparing to screen their second video in Geneva
today, which has a running time of 53 minutes and is a sequel to its earlier one
Sri Lanka Killing Fields. The latest one is titled Unpunished War Crimes.
They have invited all members attending the UNHRC sessions, including the Sri
Lankan delegates for the screening.
The Sri Lankan delegation to Geneva includes Ministers G L Peiris, Mahinda
Samarasinghe, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Faizer Mustapha, Rishard Baduideen,
Douglas Devananda, Rauf Hakeem. Neomal Perera, Sajin Vaas Gunewardene MP, former
Attorney General Mohan Peiris and Prof Rajiva Wijesinha among others
