"Asylum seekers who have returned to Sri Lanka are safe" - Australian Immigration Minister


Australia's Immigration Minister says asylum seekers who have returned to Sri Lanka from Australia are safe, because they were found to be not genuine refugees. [AFP]

"Sri Lankan asylum seekers, who have returned to Sri Lanka from Australia, are safe", Radio Australia quoted the Australian Immigration Minister Chris Bowen as saying.

The Australian Immigration and Citizenship Minister made these comments prior to his scheduled 03 day official visit to Sri Lanka. According to the Extern Affairs Ministry officials, Minister Chris Bowen arrived in the island on 02nd May.

"He says those returned from Australia are safe, because they have been found NOT to be genuine refugees", Radio Australia further stated.

The Australian Immigration Minister will hold bilateral discussions with Hon. Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of External Affairs followed by signing of an Air Services Agreement, External Affairs Ministry sources said.
