MoD believes surviving LTTE cadres can help establish casualty figures
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday (01 May) said
that the international community should ask the LTTE rump to reveal the number
of children killed and maimed while 'in service' with the group. In fact, those
seniors, who had managed to flee the Vanni during the final phase of the
conflict and take refuge abroad would be able to shed light on casualty figures,
he said.
The Defence Secretary was commenting on the UK human rights
report, which alleged that the whereabouts of 13 children recruited by the
breakaway LTTE faction, TMVP (headed by Karuna) and the exact number of children
killed and maimed during the conflict remained unknown.
As the LTTE was known for maintaining battle-field records,
those who had survived the final confrontation should be able to set the record
straight, the Defence Secretary said.
