Futile attempt to tarnish country’s image

The vestiges of LTTE terrorists are in a futile attempt to put the country in disrepute by issuing various reports which has neither factual nor legal basis after the failure of the US and western powers to meddle with its internal affairs, Senior Lawyer S.L. Gunasekera said.
Referring to the recent report issued by the International Crisis Group on Sri Lanka, Gunasekera said this NGO has been taking the international community for a ride by issuing various reports which are aimed at creating division in developing countries.
Gunasekera was speaking at an intellectual forum at the National Library and Documentation Board Auditorium yesterday.
He said none of these NGOs uttered a word nor issued a single report in condemnation when the LTTE was killing thousands of civilians in the South and North.
He queried where the crisis groups were when hundreds of passengers were killed by claymore mines triggered by the LTTE in Dehiwala, Central Bank , Pettah bus stand and so many places.
He said the ISG executive committee comprises Stephen J Solaz and a number of Pro LTTE elements whose main target is to carry forward what the French Foreign Minister and Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband failed in the back drop of stiff resistance by the Government.
Gunasekera said the purpose of preparing this baseless report by which Security Forces have been charged of committing war crimes is to give some sort of recognition to the mythical Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam.
He added that Stephen J. Solaz was actively involved in helping Pol Pot through America and he promoted the US Government to invade Iraq. Gunasekera said Solaz and his bandwagon in the ISG has failed to drop a single word in condemnation when thousands of people are being killed in bomb explosions in Iraq.
Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said the ICG has deviated its original policy and involved in sawing the seeds of disunity and destruction worldwide. Former Solicitor General Douglas Premaratne PC, Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera and Major General Thilak Paranagama also spoke.
