May 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka will celebrate the one year anniversary of the end of the decades-long war achieved last May for one week.
Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry has declared a week from May 12-18 for commemorating the war heroes.
Sri Lankan security forces formally informed the Sri Lankan President of the end of the military operation against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on May 18, 2009.
Within the week of commemoration, provincial governors will hold ceremonies in their respective provinces, the Ministry said.
Accordingly, the commemoration ceremonies will be held on May 12 in the Central Province, May 13 in Uva, East, and Northern Provinces, May 14 in the North Western, May 15 in Southern Province, May 16 in the North Central and on May 17 in the Sabaragamuwa Province.
Sri Lanka Army will be conducting religious ceremonies and felicitations in commemorating the war heroes during the week as directed by the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
The main event of the Sri Lanka Army within the week will be the laying of the foundation stone on May 15 for the wellness resort to be built for the dependent disabled soldiers - 'Abimansala' at Nuwara Weva in Anuradhapura, the Defence Ministry announced.
