The creation of an environment conducive for victory celebrations on the eve of the first anniversary of the defeat of 30 years of terrorism can be considered as a true victory achieved by us as a country, Mass Media and Communication Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
He said the ability to lay a solid foundation towards transforming Sri Lanka into the Wonder of Asia at this moment should also be considered as a true victory achieved by the country.
Minister Rambukwella said this in a message to mark the first anniversary of the total defeat of terrorism.
The message said certain local and international forces tried to paint the LTTE as an invincible force until the last moment of its defeat. They even went to the extent of disbelieving the total annihilation of the LTTE and its leadership.
The country was able to achieve this convincing victory over terrorism due to the exemplary and bold leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The role played by the heroic war heroes in the accomplishment of this task could never be forgotten. The Minister said we could enjoy the real benefits of this war victory only if we achieved success in the nation-rebuilding effort.
All sections of the people who rallied round the Government and the Security Forces to support the successful completion of the war effort should therefore extend the same amount of assistance and support to the national rebuilding effort to ensure its success.
