Ex-combatants in rehabilitation centers dropped down to 2,924

Number of former LTTE cadres remaining in the rehabilitation centers dropped down to 2,924, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe said.
The remaining will be released to the society after completing the rehabilitation proramme, the Commissioner General said.
According to the Commissioner General the government's rehabilitation program has been a success and so far, 7,969 ex-LTTE combatants have been completed the rehabilitation and released to their families.
The rehabilitated cadres have been given vocational training during the programme to improve their skills and knowledge.
During the last stages of the humanitarian operation 11,664 former LTTE cadres surrendered to the security forces.
One hundred and eight ex-child combatants are preparing to take the GCE Advanced Level examination in August this year.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed the four-member committee in January this year to study the cases of detained LTTE suspects and recommend suitable action to expedite the cases against them. This was initiated as recommended by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
