Mr. Solheim, it’s time to stop helping terrorism

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Sri Lankans to condemn those attacks and extend my sympathy to the families and people who lost their loved ones. At the same time if we take our memory a few years back, as you all know, people who live in Sri Lanka suffered almost 30 years of bloody war and it caused significant hardships for the population, social system, environment and the economy of the country. Thanks to the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government LTTE terrorists were defeated and war was ended two years ago.
If we go back to 9 years in the past, as we all know Norwegian government mediated to bring about a ceasefire between Sri Lankan government and LTTE terrorist group. Norwegian Minister of International Development, Erik Solheim acted as an international peace keeper between both sides. I would like to emphasize as a matter of fact that the said ceasefire was just limited to papers and ineffective talks. I would like to ask Norwegian international peace maker Erik Solheim and his Norwegian government whether they have genuinely carried out peace talks? As a fact myself and the people of Sri Lanka emphasize that their genuine aim had not been bringing peace to Sri Lanka but to help LTTE terrorist group and make Sri Lanka one of the most dangerous war zones.Their aim was to sell weapons to the both sides and make profit. At the same time when there is a war it damages the country’s economy a lot so that we automatically are compelled to obtain loans from the western world. Third World countries like Sri Lanka have to pay back these loans with high rates of interest and the country becomes unstable as a result.
Mr Solheim and peace keepers from Norwegian government knew that during this peace agreement both government troops and LTTE terrorists were not allowed to use their arms but what I ask from Solheim and Norwegian peace keepers is how many terrorist attacks were carried out by this brutal terrorist organisation called LTTE. Our memory runs back to the assassination of former foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar in 2005. 13 farmers were shot and hacked to death in a village of Welikanda in 2006 and within the same year a civilian bus was blown up killing 68, including ten children and three pregnant women. Approximately 60 more were injured. These are just few examples of brutal acts of the LTTE.
What have they (peace mediators) done while this brutal terrorist organisation was carrying out this type of gruesome attacks? They were silent. As a matter of fact they supplied arms and further encouraged LTTE to continue their gruesome acts. The arms captured by Sri Lankan forces during the final war in 2009 will provide evidence to that effect, because the manufactured country had been clearly mentioned on such arms. As Sri Lankans we felt the fear of death at that time. Norway too feels the fear of death now.
Now this is the time to think that how dreadful is terrorism? As Sri Lankans we had almost 30 years of bitter experience. Fortunately now terrorism is completely defeated from the country but still Norway and most of the western countries are trying to re-strengthen this terrorist organisation in Sri Lanka and make the country unsafe again. As Norwegian government understood the cruelty of this twin attack, they must be able to understand the ruthlessness of LTTE terrorist organization and the dreadful inhumane attacks they carried out targeting thousands of innocent civilians in my country. Norwegian government must understand that same as their government and people in Norway are afraid of this type of attacks, both our citizenry and the government too were afraid of terrorism. Now is the right time to stop helping terrorism.
As Buddhists, hating each other is being condemned by all Sri Lankans including myself. We always are kind and helpful to the others. That’s how we can bring peace to the world. Finally once again I will take this opportunity on behalf of all Sri Lankans to condemn those attacks and pass my sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones.
