Hidden LTTE arms recovered from Mullaithivu

Colombo, Oct 3 (PTI) Nearly two-and-a-half years after the defeat of the LTTE, a special task force in Sri Lanka has recovered a huge cache of anti-aircraft ammunitions from the former LTTE stronghold of Mullaithivu, officials said today. The discovery of 1,600 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition came amid continuing search operations by the military to recover hidden arms cache of the LTTE, which conducted a three-decade bloody war with the army for a separate state for the Tamils of Sri Lanka.Mullaithivu served as the LTTE''s military capital since 1999 when the rebel group overran the government garrison there in a surprise attack killing several hundreds of soldiers. The fall of Mullaithivu to government troops in May 2009 signalled the end of the LTTE''s campaign for a separate state for the Tamils, alleging discrimination against the minority community at the hands of the majority Sinhalas.
