The Russia helps Humanitarian Demining operations

The historic event of Official Handing over ceremony of Humanitarian Demining Equipments to the Sri Lanka Army held at the premises of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development today (03rd November) morning at 10.00am.; graced by His Excellency the Ambassador for the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka Vladimir P. Mikhaylov and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The donation, we receive today, will enhance the Humanitarian Demining capability of Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit further, and will enable them to speed up the process in achieving the ultimate goal of Mine Free Sri Lanka, whilst expanding the National capacity in the near future.This donation has been a combine effort of the ICDO and the EMERCOM- Russia to raise funds approx US$ 2.8 million and it includes four MV 4 machines, fast moving Spares, 100 Jackets, 100 Metal Detectors and 100 Visor helmets.Mr. Andrey Kabanov, Deputy Director from the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequence of Naatural Disasters (EMERCOM) - Russia; Ms. Tatiana Ozerove from EMERCOM - Russia; Dr. Vladimir Kuvshinov, Deputy Secretary General from International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO)- Geneva; Mrs Saltanat Tashmatova from ICDO- Geneva participated into the ceromeny togethr with Lt Gen Jagath Jayassuriya, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and other distinguish guest.
