In the last stages of the humanitarian operation in 2009 around 300,000 people were liberated by the security forces from the grip of terrorists and all of them were housed in welfare villages in the Northern Province.
By now, more than 97% of them have been relocated in their native places and only 3,110 families remain in the welfare centers.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing at the Government Information Department Auditorium today, Minister Rambukwella said that the Cabinet has granted approval to allocate Rs.1336 million to complete relocation of remaining IDPs in their native villages.
Accordingly relocating of 1687 families in the Mullaitivu District, 1272 families in Muttur and 166 families in Mannar District, with the assistance of the North and East security forces will take place. Each family will be provided a core house with a permanent toilet in addition to common dug wells and other facilities.
