Suicide blast at Fort Railway Station

Four years have passed since the suicide blast at the Fort Railway Station which killed over 12 persons including seven members of D S Senanayake College, Colombo, baseball team.
A woman suicide bomber blasted herself at the Fort Railway Station on February 3, 2008, killing seven students of D S Senanayake College. The coach of the team was also killed in the blast which took place on the eve of the 60th Independence Day celebrations. Rajarathnam Rathiswaran, a GCE O-L Tamil medium student of D S Senanayake College was also killed in the LTTE blast. The blast occurred a few minutes after the D S Senanayake baseball team returned to Fort Railway Station from Kandy.
They had participated in a club match in Kandy. They were about to leave the station when the suicide bomber woman, who was among the crowd, blasted herself at 2.10pm.
Six died on the sport while the other later succumbed to injuries at the Colombo National Hospital.
A student of Holy Family Convent, Dehiwala was also killed in the blast.
