Post AG apologises for mistake
Personalised LTTE stamps are "not a part of the official
philatelist programme of Germany, nor are they on sale or display in German post
offices" said Dr. Rainer Wend , Executive Vice President, Corporate Public
Policy and Responsibility of the Deutsche Post AG in his letter apologising to
the government and the people of Sri Lanka.
Following vehement protest and deep concern by the Embassy of
Sri Lanka on issuing personalized LTTE stamps in Germany to the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Ministry expressing
regret about the motive of abusing the postal service of the Deutsche Post AG by
LTTE elements in Germany, has advised the Deutsche Post AG to take immediate
measures to reject subsequent orders forwarded by LTTE elements.
Dr. Rainer Wend, apologised to the government and the people of
Sri Lanka in his letter, addressed to H E the Ambassador, whilst expressing that
the Deutsche Post has produced and delivered a small quantity of stamps in
question without deeper knowledge about the LTTE connection with the motive.
With regard to the already delivered stamps, Dr. Wend added that
"Deutsche Post AG has exercised technical precautions to block the produced
stamps and prevent their usage as postage. Additionally, measures have been set
in place to better prevent further abuse of the customization service".
