Deutsche Post stamps out LTTE symbols, figures
Germany’s postal department has exercised technical precautions to prevent
the usage of stamps bearing LTTE symbols and figures.
The assurance was given by Deutsche Post AG, after Sri Lanka’s embassy in
Germany registered its protest and concern over the issue of personalised stamps
with LTTE symbols, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of
Germany.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany has
advised Deutsche Post AG to take immediate measures to reject subsequent orders
forwarded by LTTE elements, a press release from the Sri Lankan embassy in
Berlin said.
Executive Vice President- Corporate Public Policy & Responsibility for
Deutsche Post AG, Dr. Rainer Wend apologised to the government and the people of
Sri Lanka, in his letter addressed to the Ambassador, whilst stating that the
Deutsche Post has produced and delivered a small quantity of stamps in question,
without deeper knowledge of the motive for the LTTE connection,” the release
said.
