Relief for fisher folk

A number of issues pertaining to the day to day operations of the fisher folk of Vedithalattivu was taken up for discussion at a meeting held in this regard under the patronage of security forces officers recently.

Representatives of fishery societies who sat for discussions with the security forces officers were greatly relieved by the decisions reached at the meeting. Issues raised with regard to fishing and anchoring of boats were solved and the feasibility of putting up a new jetty was also explored into.

The meeting was held at the Kondampiddi fisheries harbour.

Senior security forces officers including 54 Division General Officer Commanding, Chairman of Mannar Fishermen's Society and other representatives of peripheral fishing communities participated at the meeting.

More seminar for students GCE O/L students

Another educational seminar was conducted for G.C.E (O/L) students by troops at Vavuniya Periyakomarasankulam Maha Vidyalaya recently.

The seminar was attended by more than 175 students which was conducted by eminent teachers and experienced. Study packs and refreshments including lunch was provided by the troops.

The programme was sponsored by Vavuniya branch of the People's Bank in collaboration with the 211 Brigade Headquarters.

Senior officials of the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) and 211 Brigade Headquarters (Vavuniya), Provincial Manager People's Bank (Vavuniya), teachers and state officials were present at the inaugural session.
