Fishermen in North Facilitated by Army


In order to strengthen the livelihood of the local community Sri Lanka Army distributed fishing equipments among the residents of Iranamadu on 06th December 2012. Security Forces Commander, Kilinochchi Major General Udaya Perera graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Items including o5 fishing boats and 20 fishing nets were distributed among the 10 beneficiaries in order to uplift the inland fisheries industry in the area. The event was organized by the fishery and farming committee of SF HQ (KLN).

The fishermen expressed their gratitude for the constructive efforts of the security forces in assisting them to strengthen their economies. Sri Lanka Army has initiated a number of projects to assist the people in the former conflict affected areas and they are always in the forefront in community based initiatives.

Senior security forces officers, government officials, and a large number of civilians were present at the occasion.
