Educational assistance for Northern students

With the view of improving English knowledge of Kilinochchi students, the Security Forces Headquarters (Kilinochchi) recently organized a workshop for 20 students.

The English teaching workshop was held at the 661 Brigade Headquarters area. Meanwhile, officers and other ranks attended a separate workshop on agriculture and new agricultural techniques at Security Forces Headquarters (Kilinochchi) auditorium on Friday.

Sri Lanka Army's 222 Brigade Headquarters at Jayanthigama (Kantale) recently conducted a series of seminars targeting the G.C.E (O/L) examination.

Hundreds students from Somadevi Vidyalaya, Somapura Vidyalaya, Kavanthissapura Vidyalaya, Dehiwatta Vidyalaya, Neelapola Vidyalaya, Suriyapura Vidyalaya and Mahaveligama Vidyalaya attended the seminars conducted at Kallar Somadevi Vidyalaya (Trincomalee). The sessions were conducted by Lecturers of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

The People's Bank (Serunuwara) provided model question papers while the 22 VIR Regiment provided refreshments and lunch packs for students.

In another event the 61 Division Headquarters at Maravankulam carried out a donation of stationary and study packs for fifty students of Vavuniya Vidyalaya (wanni) together with scholarships each worth Rs 2000.00.

With the assistance of well-wishers and educational authorities, troops distributed the items at the occasion.

Senior Security Forces officials, Education Department officials, teachers and students participated at the event.

In order to assist the northeast community to rebuild their lives within the national reconciliation programme, the security forces personnel are extensively involved in providing livelihood assistance for the people. Special attention is paid to the educational development of the northern children. Renovating school buildings, providing stationery and school materials, conducting awareness programmes and seminars, providing furniture and sports equipments holding sports tournaments are some of the programmes carried out by the security forces.
