Ten LTTE cadres arrested

By Norman Palihawadana

Ten LTTE cadres, who had evaded arrest since their organization was crushed in May 2009, have been arrested by a special police team.

They were nabbed with the help of the intelligence divisions, as they had not undergone rehabilitation like other LTTEers, who surrendered or were captured by the security forces, as the war came to an end.

All ten were scheduled to be brought to Colombo for questioning. They had claimed that they avoided surrender through fear of the police and security forces.

There was suspicion that they have may have been those who hurled petrol bombs at Sri TELO office in Tirunelveli, Jaffna in the early hours of November 29.

When the attack took place at about 2.30 a.m., a group of party cadres were in the office and they managed to prevent total destruction.

Security forces believe that the attack was carried out by extremist elements as they were angry over the role being played by Sri TELO to ensure national unity by intervening, to settle misunderstandings between the Northern civilians and the government.

No sooner the attack was carried out; a website supporting the LTTE Diaspora wrote that northern civilians would have carried it out since Sri TELO was acting as spies of the government.
