More assistance for Wanni students
Students of Madhukanda National School in Vavuniya were the
grateful beneficiaries of yet another social service initiative of the security
forces when they received gift packs at a function held at the school on 05th
December 2012. Gift packs including books, bags and stationery were distributed
among 60 deserving and outstanding students of the school at the function.
The gifts packs worth Rs. 18,000.00 were sponsored by Dialog
Mobile Company.
The 211 Brigade Headquarters under the Security Forces
Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) was instrumental in carrying out this charitable
deed. Not only did the students receive gift packs but they were provided with a
medical check up at a mobile medical camp conducted by security forces personnel
at the school.
A number of security forces officers, representatives of the
sponsors, Education Department officials, teachers and parents were present at
the occasion.
This act of benevolence by the security forces have brought
great joy to the children as they can begin the new year at school with new
materials without bothering their parents. The security forces regularly conduct
such programmes to uplift the educational standards of the north and east
children. In addition to renovating school building and playgrounds they also
conduct educational seminars for GCE O/L and GCE A/L. Scholarships are also
awarded to talented students in order to encourage them. Special progarmmes and
coaching camps are conducted to identify hidden talents, introduce and develop
sports among the student fraternity.
It is regretful to see the well intended initiatives of the
security forces being undermined by the actions of certain individuals and
remnant groups who are involved in a futile effort to destabilize the
cooperation between the security forces and the civil population. In spite of
their actions the majority of the masses have rejected the vindictive actions of
these anti peace elements.
The government is committed in providing equal opportunities to
all people irrespective race or religion. Through the expedited resettlement
programme all IDP have been resettled within a short period of three years since
the end of war. The rehabilitation programmes has successfully reintegrated most
of the rehabilitation beneficiaries back into their own communities. Special
livelihood development schemes are laid out to ensure the welfare of these
ex-LTTE cadres.
The need of the hour is not to dwell on the past but to move
forward. The people of the nation have seen enough death and destruction brought
about by LTTE tiger terrorism that lasted for three long decades. Armed violence
has seen its ultimate end. Its time that the remaining few LTTE sympathizers and
remnant groups resolve to renounce their destructive ideologies and enter the
mainstream society.
