Anti-Lanka elements attempting to tarnish country’s image – Army Chief

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya visited the Security Force Headquarters in Kilinochchi and 66 and 65 Division Headquarters on Monday to keep troops informed of international moves against the country and to evaluate the Army's nation-building assignments.

Security Force Commander-Kilinochchi, Major General Udaya Perera presented a comprehensive account of the roles and tasks in progress in the province with the participation of troops.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya opened a new Army welfare shopping complex at the Security Force Headquarters in Kilinochchi.

Addressing the troops, the Army chief said anti - Sri Lanka elements, backed by the LTTE rump and the diaspora are in the habit of tarnishing the country's image ahead of the UNHRC sessions making baseless allegations against the Army.

“These elements will continue to do so in the future too as they have been doing in the past few years with ulterior motives,” the Commander said.

“We are fortunate to have a head of state who firmly stands by Security Forces at all times and defends the nation,” the Commander said.

He mentioned the sacrifices and contribution by Armed Forces personnel in the defence of the country.

The Commander also visited the 66 Division Headquarters at Pooneryn.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his address to the troops serving the 66 Division explained the string of welfare projects implemented for the benefit of the Army troops.

His next stop was at Thunukkai-based 65 Division Headquarters. The Commander addressing the troops highlighted the importance of discipline and informed of international developments against the country.
