279 families in Santhapuram moved to their native places

As a result of accelerated de-mining process underway in war-torn areas in Northern Province, 279 families in Santhapuram have been given clearance to resettle in their native places, Killinochchi Government Agent Ms. Rupawathy Ketheeswaran said.
They have started to go back to their places of origin from yesterday (11 September), sources added.
These families were displaced due to immense terror activities in the area during the war, and later were rescued from the clutches of LTTE during the final stages of humanitarian operation by security forces.
Many of them had received fishing boats as livelihood support under the "Northern Spring" project, and apart from that the government is making every possible measure to uplift the living standards of these families.
