Hotel Employees are the most benefitted after war - Trade Union

Average Service Charges reach 20,000 rupees per head
"The benefits that we are enjoying today with the dawn of peace is amazing that we do not know how to express our gratitude to the President and the war heroes for winning the war for us", says Mr. Dharmadasa Jayasinghe , chairman of the trade union at Taj Samudra , Colombo.
He expressed sincere gratitude to the President, Defence Secretary and the war heroes on behalf of the all hotel employees in the country when defence.lk inquired from a group of people putting up a banner at the Galle Face yesterday morning (Sep 20).
Identifying themselves as the members of Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya (SLNSS), Taj Samudra Branch, they said their effort is to show the country the noble service done by the war heroes, in their own small way.
"Our average service charge has gone way beyond 20,000 rupees per employee for the first time in the history in Sri Lanka, said Mr. Indika Gunarathna , secretary of the Trade Union Branch.
Explaining further he said that the Service Charge is a very important part of a salary of a hotel employee which is fully dependent on the sales volume of the hotel.
"Now our service charge is about two times of the basic salary of a junior hotel employee ... during the wartime the maximum we could reach was 12,000 rupees" he added.
When inquired Assistant HR Manager Taj Samudra, Mr. Sanjaya Somasiri, he pointed out that very few people know about the fact how the hotel employees are befitted by the war victory though almost everybody know that the Hotel Industry is booming in the country.
