20 Jul 2011 - 13:30
Uthuru Wasanthaya (‘Northern Spring’) Programme heralds spring to the people of the North. It is necessary for the people in the North to join the Government’s nation building endeavours, stated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing the people in Kayts yesterday (18th). Speaking in Tamil, he stressed that the Government has provided every facility necessary for the development of the North. This was the first time a state leader paid a visit to Kayts. Thousands of innocent Tamil civilians battered by the three decade long menace of terrorism, and whose prime hope has been peace and development, attended the rally enthusiastically, giving rounds of applause. They expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the President for the freedom and facilities they have been enjoying for the last two years.Speaking further, the President added that after a thirty year period of darkness, the people in the North have received a new country with new facilities where they can live without fear. The North should no longer be an under-developed area. The newly constructed Sangupiddi Bridge is a gift for everyone in the North. He also said that a new project will be initiated to resolve the problem of water faced by the people in the North, while measures will be taken to provide every facility to the North including education, agriculture, health, road and highways, and electricity.President Rajapaksa stressed that some factions who enjoy luxurious lives abroad by virtue of the money they earn from NGOs strive to mislead people via misinformation campaigns, and therefore, the public need to be aware of what they say and do.He emphasized the need to say no to terrorism in the future. Children are our most precious resource, he further said, and it is his expectation to see them improving with good education.Courtesy : Priu.gov.lk
