Another batch of rehabilitated former LTTE cadres reintegrates

Rehabilitation Commissioner General Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe said, that 552 rehabilitated former LTTE cadres were reintegrated into the society at a function held at Punthottam Tamil Vidyalaya in Vavuniya on 04 July 2011. Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera graced the occasion as the Chief Guist and handed them back to their family members.
Rehabilitation Commissioner General further said, after the completion of their rehabilitation, the remaining 2,950 youths would be reintegrated into the society before the end of this year.
Maj. Gen. Ranasinghe said that in keeping with President Mahinda Rajapaksa's directions the youths had been provided with spiritual, livelihood, mental and physical training before they were re-integrated into society as useful citizens. The majority of the 552 youth being re-integrated into society were between the ages of 20 and 35 and there were six women among them.
Further he added that they had been able to train and reintegrate 7,965 former LTTE cadres by providing them a suitable vocational training during their rehabilitation period. Most of those youths have now started self employment of their own.
"Similarly, we pay these youths frequent visits, speak to them and see whether they have any problems and monitor them until such time we are very confident that they can stand on their own feet and that we do not need to care for their welfare anymore," he said.
