The Lamp Post Killings
Betrayal of Sri Lankan Tamils to the terrorists
www.defence.lk">They knew the disaster that was looming. Their extremely caste ridden society had given immense powers to individuals who were unworthy of having such powers. These Powerful individuals sans true leadership competence succumbed to dangerous fantasies created in their minds fuelled by growing avarice for power.
They saw how the young minds were being poisoned with tribalism by these individuals who happened to be their leaders. The poison had a speedy effect. Terrorism first laid its brutal hands on the weakest; the poor low caste Tamils. Then, it quickly gripped the entire Tamil community. Soon, it started plaguing the whole nation.
They wanted to cry for help, but they couldn't. They were silenced both by the destructor and the interlopers who wanted to make bloody cash over the destruction.
The Attached document was an attempt made to inform the world of their plight. It was published in 1984, when the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam was nothing but an armed gang of cutthroats. It contains factual evidence how terrorism was born in Sri Lanka. It gives the lie to the fancy that the terrorists were a liberation movement for Tamils. In fact, it murdered more Tamils than Sinhalese and Muslims in Sri Lanka. The successive governments made their best attempts to rid the nation from terror, like any other legitimate government in the world would do.
But the document contains something else too; something shocking than the terrorism itself. It is documented evidence that some human rights organizations with appealing names had been wrong about Sri Lanka, right from the beginning. They have either taken the wrong approach to deal with Sri Lanka's human rights issues or deliberately tried to make it worse for their own advantage. The past and the present behaviour of these so called Human Rights champions with regard to our nation strongly suggest that the latter might be true.
During the 26 years we suffered from terrorism, we saw enormous number of campaigns, condemnations, alerts, warnings, press releases, etc. originated by "Amnesty" and "Human Rights Watch" blaming Sri Lanka for violating Human Rights. Even a brief study would show those organizations had kept a stark silence over the crimes committed by the Tamil Tigers.
It seems that these organizations never wanted the world to know the true nature of Sri Lanka's war on terror. It seems that they wanted us to keep on fighting forever. Now, that we have gone against their interest and ended the war, they blame that we have taken the "wrong way to peace". But, have they been right about Sri Lanka?
It is time that the world take serious note of the behaviour of various outfits that claim themselves to be protectors of human rights. True, that they have appealing names, but are they really doing anything meaningful to protect human rights. With regard to our nation, they were just a lobby for terrorist propaganda. Instead of helping to alleviate human sufferings they made them much worse.
