Tamils in North rallying round President
Suraj A Bandara in Jaffna
“I trust President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government and he will surely solve all the problems of the Tamil people soon,” Hartley College, Jaffna, Principal N. Devendrarajah said. He further appreciated the service rendered by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, the originator of the Uthuru Vasanthaya rapid development programme, who visits the region frequently and initiates important development programmes.
“During a three-year period the Jaffna district has witnessed tremendous development and the education levels have also been upgraded immensely.
“Yesterday, for the first time financial allocation to construct an assembly hall at Hartley College was made by the Economic Development Ministry in line with a series of development programmes earmarked for commencement”, Devendrarajah said.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said the Economic Development Ministry took this decision to allocate funds to Hartley College to construct an assembly hall in order to bring the college to its past glory.
Chief priest of the Point Pedro Kovil Shiwanesan Kurukkal said the government is making the people’s lives more comfortable while safeguarding their fundamental rights. The development of the region during a very short period is a great boost to the lives of the people who understand that President Rajapaksa is a capable and unbiased leader who will always help them.
“President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only leader who brought about permanent peace to the country where all ethnic groups can live with equal rights”, stated a teacher of St Joseph’s School, Jaffna, when asked as to who would win the forthcoming Local Government election in the Jaffna district.“It is true that the TNA and other political parties who are contesting the election are pretending that they are trying to redress the problems of the Tamils. But as far as I can see their efforts are only confined to paying lip service with an aim to deceive the Tamils and obtain their votes,” he said.
