Expatriate Lankans in Vienna helps disabled children in the North & East

Sri Lankan expatriates in Vienna have recently donated 49 wheel chairs to disabled children in Sri Lanka. The First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa, at a ceremony held at the President's House in Colombo handed over 18 wheel chairs for young children disabled by the conflict in the north and eastern regions.
The remaining wheel chairs were distributed at welfare centers in Manik Farm, Vavuniya and Batticaloa. Sri Lankan community members, in association with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Vienna, collected the fund for donation of wheel chairs at an event held on 18th May 2010 in remembrance of Ranaviru heroes and fellow country men and women who had sacrificed their lives during the conflict.
The event also marked the first anniversary of dawning of peace after the defeat terrorism in the island. In order to show their solidarity with the families affected, expatriates gathered at the event came forward to support the wheel chair donation programme.
Representatives of Sri Lankan community in Vienna also participated at the distribution ceremony held in Sri Lanka.
