Minister inspects housing project for IDPs
Resettlement Minister Milroy Fernando inspected the first phase of the houses being built for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by Caritas Sri Lanka in Palampiddy in the Madhu area recently, a Resettlement Ministry's spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. Nearly 87 houses are being built at a cost of Rs. 600,000 each for 572 IDPs the newly built houses would have water, electricity and other amenities, she said.
The IDPs in these areas are unable to move freely and engage in their agricultural activities since the de-mining process is going on in the agricultural and other lands. They are given a financial assistance of Rs. 35,000 to start other self-employment projects by the same organization, she said.
The Resettlement Minister also distributed 25 bicycles to schoolchildren and kitchen utensils to families
