Shed political differences, serve nation - President

There is massive development in the North today. The time has come for everyone to join in serving the people sans political differences. We must commit ourselves to rebuild the lives of the people who suffered for thirty years due to terrorism, stated President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the public officials in Kilinochchi today (14 July).
The development work in this area is quite clear. We have resettled IDPs in a speedy manner unparallel to anywhere else in the world. They are also provided with necessary security, he further said.
'I just want to remind you that today we are creating history. This is the first time that a Head of State is addressing public officials at a location at Kilinochchi', President Rajapaksa said and noted that he is addressing them today at a time when the entire Northern Province is being transformed into a very conducive environment to live and work.
You must go to the people and identify their problems, and work towards addressing them, the President told the gathering and added, 'working for the people is similar to working for God. Never forget this. We must ensure that the people of the North are provided with facilities.
The people who come to you are those who have gone through immense difficulties. You are their only consolation. You have the possibility to provide them with relief, the President reiterated and added, 'you must feel privileged because this is an opportunity to serve your people and therefore, the motherland. Unlike in the days of colonial masters, we are all one'.
We do not belong to different classes. You have had the good fortune to receive free education, and I believe it is time for you to return some of it to your motherland. I cannot see a better way than serving these innocent people, he said.
We are spending a large capital for development. The people must receive its maximum benefit, the President stated.
'You are all responsible public officials. Your service is essential to the country', he said and stressed that Tamils were a part of the public service. 'Some of them are now at high positions. No one can deny that', he said.
