July 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Sri Lanka Deputy Minster of Resettlement, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan said the government's resettlement programme was on track and would meet the August deadline to resettle all displaced persons in the North.
Muralitharan told ColomboPage that currently there were only 42,000 persons from 12,000 families remaining in the IDP camps in the North.
"We resettled about 1,000 people in the Kilinochchi area yesterday (5)," he said.
Muralitharan explained that the resettlement depended on the .
"De-mining is carried out effectively by forces personnel and they are working day and night to ensure that de-mining is completed fast," he said.
The government however, will be able to meet the August deadline for resettling the displaced in the North, the Minister said.
