Southern LTTEer arrested
A person from the South, who has allegedly committed acts of terrorism with the LTTE was arrested by the Colombo Police Crimes Division at Dedigama in the Navagamuwa area yesterday.
The terrorist suspect is a Sinhalese who had cooperated in committing acts of terrorism in the North and the South for more than 18 years. On information received the CCD had made investigations on his movements for some time before he was arrested.
The suspect was given foreign trips by the terrorists. Among the crimes he is alleged to have been involved in were an attempt on the life of Minister Douglas Devananda, taking terrorists to vicinity of the Panagoda Army cantonment in a three-wheeler, giving maps of the Polhengoda Army camp to terrorists, giving cover to a woman Tiger suicide bomber in 2007, passing on information about the commanders of the Armed Forces to the terrorists and helping the terrorists in a number of bomb blasts in the South.
He is also said to have gone to Malaysia to brief the LTTE's Siva and Raghu and was collaborating with the terrorist intelligence wing members who had come to the South in 2007-2008 to make an effort to stop the humanitarian operations of the Armed Forces in the North and East.
He is operating a number of bank accounts and the police are now investigating his transactions.
DIG Anura Senanayake of the CCD with SP Ranaweera are directing investigations. OIC Hemantha Dikowita, Inspector A.D.G.B.Wijeratna, SI Amal and Sergeants Premaratna and Ruwan are conducting the investigation.
