Secretary Defence honours parents and families of fallen war heroes with "Uttama Pooja Pranama" medal

Over 3000 families of fallen war heroes of Army, Navy, Air Force and Police of Kandy district were honored with "Uttama Pooja Pranama" medal by Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa today, (26 Nov).
Ministry of Defence together with Ranaviru Seva Authority organized the felicitation ceremony in conjunction with the commemoration day of one of Sri Lanka's national heroes Weera Keppetipola; at 1st Rajarata Rifle Corps in Pllakale, Kandy.
Parents and family members of War heroes who sacrificed their lives for bringing back lasting peace to the motherland were honored with "Uttama Pooja Pranama" medal today.
Speaking at the event Mr. Rajapaksa said, "All who contributed during the last 30 years made possible to eliminate the terrorism from the country and we will never forget their greatest sacrifices for years to come".
Further, the Secretary took time off to mingle with parents and family members who participated in the event and listened to their problems brought to his notice.
The 'Uttama Pooja Pranama' was the brainchild of Secretary Defence initiated in tribute to the countless sacrifices made by those families of Sri Lanka's bravest men and women.
Earlier, on 14th October 2010 "Uttama Pooja Pranama" medal awarding ceremonies were held at Special Task Force training center at Katukurunda- Kaluthara and Panagoda Army cantonment. 1426 and 2600 next of kin of War heroes were honoured with Uttama Pooja Pranama Padakkama" respectively during those two ceremonies.
Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Mrs Padma Waththawa, Maj. Gen Lalith Dawlagala, Maj. Gen Mano Perera and senior officials of three forces and police also participated at the event.
