Suspected Tamil Tiger arrested in Germany

Berlin: German authorities have arrested a 35-year-old suspected member of the Tamil Tiger rebel group on suspicion of membership in a foreign terrorist organisation and breeches of export laws.
German Federal Prosecutors said Wednesday the suspect, identified only as Agilan W, had been arrested when he arrived at Duesseldorf airport the previous day. He had been extradited from Madagascar.
Prosecutors suspect the man, a German citizen, of belonging to the German wing of the Sri Lankan rebel group from 2005 to 2009, and collecting money to support the rebels' fight against the Sri Lankan government. The Tamil Tigers, defeated in 2009 after 25 years of civil war in Sri Lanka, are listed as terrorists by the European Union.
