LTTE held civilians as human shield says former Mullaittivu GA

* "Tamilchelvam gave a warning once not to send any progress report to anybody because it was very damaging to the LTTE's politics aboard".
* "The government looked after the people providing free education and free medical facilities even during the war time".
"My people, my public servants, the people in Wanni are surviving and safe guarded and provided security by the government forces in Sri Lanka. Finally, I have to thank now that we are doing a very respectable resettlement program in our area. People are very happy and now we are rapidly resettling every month around 10,000 people", stated the former Government Agent of Mullaittivu Mrs Imelda Sumkmar on Thursday( 02nd June).
"During war time in Mullaittivu also around 50 children were entering University every year. That's how the government looked after the people providing free education and free medical facilities" she stated.
"During the war period, even though then Security Forces Wanni commander and present commander of the army Lt General Jagath Jayasooriya informed me to take the civilians out from un-cleared area, I was unable to do it as LTTE terrorists used civilians as human shield keeping them as hostages. ", former Government Agent of Mullaittivu Mrs Imelda Sumkmar said yesterday, 2nd June, addressing the final day's session of the defence symposium, 'Defeating Terrorism Sri Lankan Experience' held at the Galadari Hotel Colombo.
Mrs Imelda Sukumar served as the government agent in Mullaittivu and she was in-charge of all civil administration in entire Mullittivu district to provide humanitarian assistance for the civilians trapped by terrorists, before taking over her new appointment as the Government Agent Jaffna on 13th July 2010.
Speaking at the Seminar she further explained, how the government and security forces had provided humanitarian assistance for the people under LTTE tyranny, throughout the period which the humanitarian operation was on progress.
"Commissioner General of Essential Services ordered us to maintain a buffer stock of essential items for three months in order to look after the people. Also, we maintained stocks for medicines for three months. " she added.
"During the war people were not allowed to move - they had no freedom of movement in LTTE areas. The success from terror of our country was due to the well maintaining of justice, love with respect and discipline by the armed forces and the Government", she further stated.
