Govt will never bow to int'l conspiracies - PM
'The government will never bow down before international conspiracies hatched through the Channel 4 television channel to tarnish the country's image, said Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne when he addressed a meeting following the unveiling of a Buddha statue in reclining posture believed to be the longest such statue in Sri Lanka at the Senanayake Mudalindarama Maha Piriven Viharaya at Ambepussa, Warakapola recently.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne
The Most Ven Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter and the Most Ven Weweldeniye Medhalankara Mahanayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya presided.
The Prime Minister who described the controversial Channel 4 video as a concocted and staged film said that the Sri Lankan nation could never be subdued by such fantasies.
The Prime Minister said people in all parts of the country including the North and South can now live in peace and dignity due to the programme implemented under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
'The challenge before the government today was to defeat conspiracies aimed to demean the war victory. Certain international groups which turned a blind eye towards acts of genocide committed by LTTE terrorists were trying to bring the government to disrepute by utilizing certain unavoidable incidents which occurred during the last and final stages of the humanitarian operation and the whole country should rally round the government to defeat such sinister aims.
The Prime Minister said political parties and groups supporting international conspiracies seemed to be operating in the country today. There is a tendency among such parties and groups to stage attacks on their meetings to gain international attention and sympathy.
Viharadhipati Ven. Madithiyawela Medhankara Anunayake Thera and Parliamentarian Vasantha Senanayake were also present on the occasion.
